The Closing of Project Mata Hati
MISC recently expressed appreciation to Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas (SMPK) in Setapak and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) for their collaboration since the beginning of Project Mata Hati (PMH) through a closing ceremony occasion at SMPK on 27 October 2017. Puan Rozainah Awang, Vice President of Finance, represented MISC during the closing ceremony with the presence of students and teachers from SMPK and representatives from UPSI and MISC at the school hall.
PMH began as one of MISC's Community Investment initiatives on 2011 with the aim of inspiring visually impaired students to help improve their academic and social development skills. Since 2010, the outreach team has worked with students of SMPK to enhance their learning and life skills by providing them with opportunities to experience various activities outside of a classroom setting.
As part of MISC's mission to create a positive difference to the lives of communities, PMH has generated confidence and a sense of independence for the students and also opportunities for them to fulfill their potential.
MISC is now making a step towards a more sustainable and long-term community investment initiative in line with the company's Sustainability Strategy for the Community. The Community Strategy will focus on promoting the importance of long term social investment in education and will seek ways to carry out education-centric initiatives that will contribute to the growth of the nation by nurturing the future generation of leaders.
The closing ceremony marks a step for MISC in having a place in future with a well-established and fully functioning strategy that will be able to upskill and expand career opportunities for the youth, as well as enhance their knowledge and awareness of the maritime industry in a way that is long-term and meaningful.
